On July 18th, 1937 Hunter S. Thompson was born in Louisville, Ky. In his lifetime Thompson redefined what journalism could be as he became the official spokesman of the counterculture. Thompson is most famous for writing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the semi-true tale of Raoul Duke (Thompson’s alter ego) and his lawyer, Dr. Gonzo, on a “savage journey to the heart of the American Dream.” Thompson’s work inspired a generation of artists and many of them have paid tribute to the Good Doctor with tattoos inspired by him. So, to paraphrase Thompson: Buy the ticket, take the ride, get tattooed.
