Here Comes the Sun Tattoos
Embrace the sunshine with sensational tattoos.
Some people think they’re the center of the universe. But you know what? That role is filled by the Sun. The Sun is a star at the center of our solar system and it’s by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. Our Sun was formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago and it has a diameter of about 864,000 miles—making it 109 times larger than Earth. It’s primarily made up for hydrogen (about 73%) and the rest consists of helium (25%), with trace amounts of oxygen, carbon, neon and iron.
In cultures around the world, the Sun has been celebrated for many centuries. Some cultures have represented the Sun as a deity and the earliest observations of it’s behavior date back to the early first millennium BC. We can see art depicting the Sun throughout history, with notable examples being Claude Monet’s “Impression, Sunrise” in 1872 and Vincent Van Gogh’s “Olive Trees With Yellow Sky And Sun” in 1889. The Sun eventually made it’s way into the tattoo world, getting it’s time in the spotlight during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Sun tattoos were all the rage during this era, with notable examples being worn by Dave Bautista, The Rock and Sisqo. Today, Suns are still a popular tattoo subject, however, they’ve changed in style and approach over the years. Take a look at some of our favorite tattoos of the Sun in the gallery below, then let us know your thoughts on this story in the comments section on social media.
