Pop superstar Miley Cyrus recently unveiled the most recent addition to her ever expanding tattoo collection—a small ringed planet that was inked by Lauren Winzer. We love the adorable, little tattoo. But there’s just one little problem, it’s the wrong planet.
In her Instagram post Cyrus showed that it’s been a while since her last astronomy class as she hashtagged the post with “#lilbbjupiter,” likely earning her the wrath of astrophysicist and Twitter aficionado Neil deGrasse Tyson. While Jupiter does have rings—albeit rings that are very difficult to see even with an advanced telescope—it does not look anything like Cyrus’s tattoo. The defining feature of Jupiter is the enormous, never ending storm known as the Great Red Spot.
When you think planetary rings there is only one planet that comes to mind—Saturn. And that is apparently where Winzer got her inspiration for the tattoo. To her credit, the tattoo artist is having a sense of humor about the whole thing. As people flooded her Instagram post of the tattoo squawking about the planetary mixup Winzer had this to say, “Both have rings so I guess it’s interpretation haha but definitely a planet all the same #rippluto.”
Hopefully Cyrus wasn’t getting the tattoo as a tribute to the Roman god of the sky or in excitement over the spacecraft Juno’s upcoming orbit of the massive planet this summer. Even if one of these ridiculous theories was her inspiration Saturn is an easy planet to love, we’re sure she’ll come around and embrace the ringed planet that was discovered by Galileo in 1610!

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
