In an effort to distract their fans from yet another season spent at the bottom of the NBA standings, the Sacramento Kings unveiled a new set of logos this week. Before you start to go on a rant about how teams redesign their logos only to reap in more revenue from merchandising you need to hear about the amazing promotion the team is doing Wednesday—for one day only the team will pay you to get a tattoo of the new logo.
You heard that correctly, the Kings are looking for diehard fans willing to take the leap and mark themselves as Kings fans for the rest of their lives. Tattoos last a very, very long time. Almost as long as Sacramento’s ongoing title drought. All joking aside, this is a really cool way to engage with the team’s most ardent fans while promoting the logo redesign. Plus that title drought might not last all that many years as the team has some very promising young talent in the form of Demarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay and Inked favorite Willie Cauley-Stein. Kings fans have reasons to be optimistic; I can’t think of a better way to show their faith in the club than by proudly wearing their team’s logo in their skin.
The new set of logos incorporate elements from many of the team’s previous logos dating all the way back to their inception as the Rochester Royals. It remains to be seen how the redesign will look on an NBA jersey, but we can guarantee that the alternate logo of the basketball playing lion will look damn good as a tattoo.
There is one catch about the free tattoo promotion—you need to get the ink TODAY at one of five different shops in the Sacramento area. The participating shops are Royal Peacock Tattoo, Honeymoon Tattoo, California Tattoo Company, Quarter Horse Tattoo and Crimson Needles. Recipients of the tattoos are encouraged to share their ink on social media by tagging @SacramentoKings and using the hashtag #NewEraofProud. And of course, we’d like to see the ink too, so may as well throw #InkedMag on there as well.
We applaud the Kings for thinking outside of the box and engaging with their fans through tattoos. Hopefully the good karma from doing this will carry over into the 2016/2017 season and help the Kings return to the playoffs for the first time in quite a while.

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
