Affinity Tattoo and Piercing in Austin, Texas was re-imagined as the Harley Quinn Tattoo Parlor during the SXSW Film Festival this week, and fans of the upcoming Suicide Squadfilm lined up around the block to get permanent (and temporary) tattoos inspired by their favorite characters from the movie. For four days, the one-of-a-kind Suicide Squad tattoos were done for free, and there were plenty of people attending the SXSW Film Festival who were happy to take advantage of the killer deal, especially if it meant tattooing their favorite film character on their bodies for good.
While Suicide Squad fans who came to check out Harley’s Tattoo Parlor were given the option of getting temporary tattoos, more than a few opted for permanent tributes to the upcoming film, with Harley Quinn, The Joker, Enchantress and Killer Croc coming in as the most popular characters. According to Marcy Davis, one of Harley Quinn’s assistants at the tattoo shop, “We do 18 a day, for the permanent tattoos. All throughout the day we’ve been doing temporary tattoos as well – so you can get the exact same thing temporarily on you.”
Transforming an actual Austin, Texas tattoo shop into Harley Quinn’s Tattoo Parlor was an ingenious bit of experiential marketing from the Suicide Squad crew, and now, by the time the movie hits theaters on August 5, there will already be dozens of die-hard fans out there with permanent tattoos inspired by The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Enchantress, and other characters from the highly-anticipated film.
Here are the four most popular Suicide Squad characters immortalized in permanent tattoos from the SXSW Suicide Squad Tattoo Parlor.
Enchantress – Played by British model Cara Delevingne in the Suicide Squad live-action film, Enchantress is a sorceress and is believed to be the most powerful member of the Suicide Squad, transforming from her good side, June Moon, to her magical alter ego by speaking the phrase “The Enchantress.”
The Joker – The most iconic villain in the DC Comics world, The Joker is played by Jared Leto in the upcoming film. Leto’s tattooed Joker in the Suicide Squad movie holds true to the character’s infamously chaotic, unpredictable nature and penchant for punishment.
Harley Quinn – Actress Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn, a notoriously psychotic supervillain with superhuman agility, enhanced strength and a heightened intelligence among her powers. A former psychiatrist, in the comics Quinn enjoyed dressing in costume, including a black and red “Harlequin” (get it??) jester costume.
Killer Croc – Played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in the upcoming film, Killer Croc is a supervillain portrayed as having a rare genetic condition that gives him a reptilian appearance, and the character has a number of extraordinary physical abilities, including speed, endurance and strength.
