The Flash Reveals Sentimental Tattoo

Check out Grant Gustin's newest tattoo by Dr. Woo

Grant Gustin may have first gained attention on Fox’s “Glee,” as villain Sebastian Smythe, but today he’s best known for portraying Barry Allen (a.k.a The Flash)  on The CW. Smythe was introduced to the Arrowverse, making his first appearance in “Arrow,” and soon after as the titular character of “The Flash” in October 2014. As a child, Allen’s mother is murdered by Reverse-Flash and his father is framed for the crime. He’s raised by a police captain and grow up to be an assistant crime-scene investigator for Central city. In the show’s first season, he’s struck by lightening during an explosion at S.T.A.R Lab, which sends him into a coma. Nine months later, he wakes up from his coma and realizes he’s developed superhuman speed from the accident. He then goes onto use his powers to fight crime in the city and work to uncover the truth of his mother’s murder.

Over the past several years, Gustin has played Allen in a number of CW shows, including “Supergirl,” “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Batwoman.” However, he’s yet to portray The Flash on the big screen. The Flash has appeared in a number of DC Extended Universe films, such as “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad,” “Justice League,” and 2022’s “The Flash.” However, in these films Ezra Miller has played Allen. Gustin and Miller did cross paths in December 2019, both portraying Allen in the CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the sixth annual Arrowverse crossover event.

Although playing The Flash does consume much of Gustin’s time, when he’s not solving crimes in Central city, he enjoys collecting tattoos. Over the years, Gustin has collected a number of small pieces from tattoo artists around the world, many of which have significant meaning. Gustin’s latest tattoo was crafted by Los Angeles’s Dr. Woo, who’s tattooed a number of television stars including Zoe Kravitz and Emilia Clarke.

For this tattoo, Gustin took inspiration from his pup Jett, who’s been in Gustin’s life for many years. Woo crafted a similar piece for Demi Lovato back in January 2019, with both stars owning (or previously owning) Maltese pups. Gustin shared the new tattoo to his Instagram, writing:

“This one is special. I have been wanting a portrait of my best bud, Jett for a long while now. We’ve been through a lot together and now he can be with me always. Thank you for this perfect piece, @_dr_woo_ You’re a legend.”
