Celebrate Rihanna’s Birthday with 18 Tattoos Inspired by the “Work” Singer
Happy 32nd Birthday Rihanna!
On February 20th, 1988 Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born in Saint Michael, Barbados. Today, she’s 32-years-old and a world-renowned singer, makeup mogul, lingerie designer and all around icon. Rihanna was discovered in Barbados by an American record producer, Evan Rogers, in 2003 and she was flown to the United States to record demo tracks for record labels. One of those tracks was “Pon De Replay,” which went on to be her debut single after she signed with Def Jam. In May 2005, Rihanna released her debut single, under her debut album “Music of the Sun,” which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In April 2006, Rihanna’s second studio album hit the air, “A Girl like Me,” which became certified platinum, The album’s lead single, “SOS,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In May 2007, Rihanna released her third studio album, “Good Girl Gone Bad,” with singles “Umbrella,” “Shut Up and Drive,” “Hate That I Love You,” “Rehab,” and “Don’t Stop the Music,” becoming international successes. By 2008, Rihanna reissued her third album and included several new chart topping singles that strayed away from her Island girl sound—such as “Disturbia,” “Take a Bow,” and “If I Never See Your Face Again.”
In November 2009, Rihanna released her fourth album “Rated R,” whose lead single “Rude Boy,” peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. One year later, Rihanna released her fifth album, “Loud,” which featured singles “Only (Girl in the World,” “What’s My Name?” and “S&M.” Then, in November 2011, Rihanna released her sixth album “Talk That Talk,” which included record breaking singles “We Found Love,” “You Da One,” and “Where Have You Been.”
In November 2012, Rihanna released her seventh studio album, “Unapologetic,” which became her first number one album in the United States with singles “Diamond,” and “Stay.” Between “Unapologetic” and her eighth album, Rihanna look four years off, releasing “Anti” in January 2016 with singles “Work,” “Needed Me,” and “Love on the Brain.”
In 2018, it was believed that Rihanna would release her ninth album, “R9,” in 2019, however, it’s currently 2020 and there’s yet to be an official date announced. However, she hasn’t stopped hustling. In September 2017, Rihanna launched her makeup line Fenty Beauty, which currently sells at Sephora under LVHM’s Kendo brands. In September 2018, Rihanna debuted her lingerie brand Savage X Fenty at New York Fashion Week, which made history with inclusive sizing and diverse model casting.
With her ninth studio album on its way and plenty of lingerie and beauty collections to gush over, 2020 will be another power year for Rihanna. In honor of her birthday, we’ve curated 18 of our favorite tattoos of the music icon in the gallery below, take a peek at the ink and let us know your favorite Rihanna song on social media.
