Today’s tattoo of the day is this beautiful piece by Ish Schuurbiers. Best known as Tattoo Ish, Schurrbiers is a highly talented realism artist based in Curacao. But have no fear, if you ever want to get tattooed by Schuurbiers and can’t make it to the island, you’re in luck as Schuurbiers is one of the most well-travelled tattoo artists around. Hitting up most major conventions and constantly guest spotting, Schuurbiers is sure to be tattooing in a city near you sometime soon.
Though he is primarily a color artist, his black and grey work always comes out incredibly solid, however he usually tends to add that pop of color to spice the piece up a bit, as showcased in today’s pick. Take a look at the tattoo above to see the gorgeous contrast and color transitions Schuurbiers has become known for, as well as the keen attention to color schemes and highlighting that allowed for these bright bursts of yellow to enhance the piece without overpowering it.
The stylized mandalas and inclusion of the tiger’s eye pull the viewer’s eye into the eyes of the portrait itself thanks to the addition of yellow hues to the mainly black and grey piece. The very subtle hints of blue throughout the piece are also added to help highlight the piece overall and draw the viewer in. It’s incredible color planning like this that makes Schuurbiers worthy of today’s pick.
