A 3D Tattoo You Have to See to Believe

Over the weekend a Reddit user posted a video showing a tattoo that was absolutely mind blowing. The geometric blackwork piece above was done by Tony Booth over a period of many sessions and frankly it is unlike any other tattoo we have ever seen.

At first glance it looked like there was no possible way that it was real. The shading of the shapes is so good that it appears as if part of the tattoo was carved out of the skin. But this is not a scarification piece, it is just an impeccably detailed tattoo. On his Instagram Booth pulled back the curtain a little bit to show how the tattoo was created.

In the progression shot above you can see that Booth began by blacking out the bulk of his client’s arm. Thus, the parts of the tattoo that appear to match the skin color of the tattoo’s owner are not actually blank skin as they appear to be; rather it is skin that was tattooed black and then tattooed a second time with a light ink.

While Booth is known for his geometric work he really stepped up his game with this piece. The 3D quality of the tattoo will likely be forcing jaws to drop for years to come. Just a few days ago Booth posted a picture of a person’s arm upon which he had nearly blacked out the entire thing. We can only hope that this is the first step toward another sick piece like this one. Tip of the hat to you, Tony Booth.
