The Yakuza style of tattooing is one of the most well-known traditional forms of body art still practiced today. The Yakuza, also known as the Japanese criminal underworld, were famous for their body suits of ink, but you probably wouldn’t notice these tattoos in broad daylight. The suits typically stopped three-quarters down on their arms and legs and left their neck, hands, feet, and a stomach panel open as to easily conceal their tattoos with their clothing. Typical Yakuza imagery is still found commonly in the Traditional Japanese style of tattooing, such as koi fish, nature images, mythological creatures, and characters from ancient Japanese folklore. The tattoo here represents a modern Yakuza style tattoo showing the art form is still heavily revered today, though it is not necessarily connected to the criminal under world anymore.
