In various Eastern religions, chakras represent the different centers of the body which each hold their own spiritual power. The sanskrit word chakra translates to wheel and the term is used to describe the wheels of energy throughout the body. There are seven main chakras which run down the spine and each one corresponds to a different nerve center. Each chakra represents a different part of the body and with that takes on mental, spiritual, and emotional symbolism.
The first chakra is known as the crown chakra and this is the chakra of enlightenment and spiritual connection to our higher selves and the divine.
From there we run into the third-eye chakra, it is linked to the pineal gland and symbolizes intuition and consciousness.
Then there is the throat chakra which is parallel to the thyroid, and it relates to communication and growth.
The heart chakra, located in the center of the chest, unites the seven chakras and it represents love and connection.
After that comes the naval chakra also known as the solar plexus chakra, it controls the digestive system and personal power.
Following the naval chakra we reach the sacral chakra, which is located in the pelvis and correlates to creative expression and sexuality.
Lastly there is the root chakra, which can be found at the base of the spine and it is related to instinct, security, and survival.
The goal of concentrating on chakras is to make sure that each and every chakra is aligned and open, so that energy is free flowing throughout the body, creating physical, mental, and spiritual harmony. And although chakras originated as a practice of Eastern religions, many people around the world choose to celebrate their symbolism through tattoos. Here are just a few chakra tattoos to meditate over.
