The flawed growth of nature or the post-mortem effects of corruption, which one do you find more intriguing? This Saturday, February 21st, artists Scott G. Brooks and Jed Leiknes will both be hosting two solo art exhibitions at Paul Booth’s Last Rites Gallery in New York, NY. Brooks will be exhibiting Inappropriate Nature, a series of paintings presenting a metaphorical outlook on the dystopian world we are creating. As a social commentary for his third solo show at the gallery, Brooks’ work explores life on an even playing field among humanity, animals and the technology we have created. With a style influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite art movement, Brooks’ subject matter is a direct reference to the modern world around him. On the other side of the gallery, Leiknes will be presenting Anathema. Leiknes began as a tattoo artist ten years ago who broadened his horizons to painting after several years in the industry. Anathema will portray 19 impasto paintings delving into “the effects of evil.” Highlighting the grotesque in a world that tries so hard to overlook it, Leiknes’ signature style will explore the aftermath of the lives and actions of various figures in a decomposed portrait style. Last Rites Gallery will hold the opening night of these dual exhibitions this Saturday from 7-11pm. Check out the gallery below for a preview of some of the amazing works of art that comprise Inappropriate Nature and Anathema. For those who cannot make the opening night, the exhibitions will be on display through April 4th.
