One of the best canvases for a large scale tattoo is the back, something tattoo artist Eugene “Levgen” Knysh seems to know all too well. Knysh is a highly talented Polish artist based at Redberry Tattoo Studio and definitely an artist to keep your eye on.
Check out this amazing back piece Knysh did on this lucky client’s back. Combing some of our favorite elements here at INKED, we get a chance to see a beautiful tiger, butterflies and flowers all filled out by a gorgeous color palette. Knysh is best known for his color realism, typically featuring a very dainty, yet bold aesthetic, as you can see in this piece above. We love the delicate nature of the flower petals paired with the effortless flow of the butterflies. What really makes this piece stand out, however, is the intense stalking gaze of the tiger. Though beautiful, the piece still gives off the illusion of a tiger tracking his prey through the jungle. Even the green background imitates tall grass or shrubbery that the tiger could be lurking through.
By adding soft features like the sweet butterflies and the bright, heavily detailed flowers, the piece holds a more gentle attitude and is therefore not overpowered by the intensity developed from the fierce tiger. Whereas this piece could have been rendered in a much more direct way, the contrasting calmness created by the addition of the floral imagery paints a classic tiger tattoo into a whole new light.
