Today’s tattoo of the day is this rather graphic piece by George Mavridis. Mavridis is based at Tattooligans in Thessalonike, Greece with a career in the industry that started in 1996. With almost two decades behind the needle, Mavridis is sure to deliver outstanding work every time.
Take a look at today’s pick, for example. Though rather graphic, the piece displays a cool layout and message through its imagery. Using the famed work from artist Leonardo Da Vinci, the Mona Lisa comes to life as she indifferently chops the top off the head of the iconic physicist, Albert Einstein. The layout of this bizarre, yet intriguing, piece allows the viewer to gaze at the infamously baffling expression Da Vinci gave to his most well known piece, while also checking out the brain behind the genius of theoretical thinking.
Both Da Vinci and Einstein were known for designing layouts and theories that led to the creations of some of today’s most important devices. Da Vinci unknowingly helped create the modern airplane while Einstein helped create the science world’s beloved theory of relativity.
Apart from this cool message, the tattoo Mavridis rendered is beautifully proportioned and saturated. What makes the tattoo stand out even more, however, is the fun patterned blackwork background with splotches of bright green to imitate the background of the original Mona Lisa painting. As all of these fun additions round the piece out, the viewer may overlook the tattoo’s best feature: the blood spewing from Einstein’s head actually spell’s out his famous equation “E=mc^2.”
