Gallery Follows the Text

To an onlooker, hamsa tattoos just look like cool designs filled with great detail and often lots of color. But there is so much more than meets the eye.

Hamsa, in Muslim communities, is referred to as the Hand of Fatima. In Jewish communities, it is referred to as the Hand of Miriam. Most commonly, the hamsa represents good luck and wards off the evil eye, hence the eye that centers the palm. The seeing eye watches over all that comes in contact with the wearer. It is the eye of protection. Additionally, the five points (three fingers and two thumbs) represent the five senses—sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.

We found that a common placement among hamsa tattoos are on the upper back or on the ribs. All are gorgeous and packed with beautiful imagery. Check it out.
