Today’s tattoo of the day is this awesome full back piece by the talented Johan Finné. Finné is currently based in Helsingborg, Sweden and has twenty years of experience in the industry. Based at Evil Twins Heavenly Tattoo Studio, Finné has developed his own instantly recognizable and very colorful style that takes on a spin between the Neo-traditional and traditional Japanese styles.
Most of Finné’s work consists of large scale pieces, like the back piece seen above. We love the use of traditional Japanese waves to round out the piece that also features iconic Japanese symbolism, such as the crane and the girl in traditional Japanese garments. Where Finné added a signature twist, however, is by turning this female silhouette into a living corpse. Not only is this design filled with a corpse revealing herself behind a mask, but the image also tells a story, as the claws of the corpse along with the images on its clothing both allude to dragon imagery, another iconic feature in Japanese tattooing.
It’s not often that one tattoo tells an entire story, like this piece does. This tell-tale back piece, thus perfectly showcases much of the creativity and out-of-the-box thinking that Finné incorporates into every single tattoo design he brings to life. As a tattoo artist, drawing the design is just as important as the tattoo’s execution, two things Finné displays he is perfectly capable of with today’s pick for tattoo of the day.
