This New App is Basically Tinder for your Tattoos

It doesn’t matter if you are a farmer or a Juggalo, religious or hedonist, there is a dating app designed especially for you. Isn’t about time there was something designed especially for the tattooed people out there? Well, soon there will be as a new Kickstarter campaign is attempting to launch the tattoo version of Tinder.

TatChat is an app that will allow you to look through photos of the tattoos around you, sort of in the same way that Tinder allows you to see the people who are in your area that are looking for a little something something. While it’s inevitable that people will use the site as a way to meet people that isn’t its main intention. Instead, the app’s creators are hoping that people will use it primarily as a way to share their tattoos.

“Join us in making the world’s biggest social, walking & talking body art gallery,” Kiril Sakaliyski, the app’s creator, says on the Kickstarter page. “We are faceless & nameless to the ink pieces we bare.”

At it’s core it seems like an interesting concept, even if it is yet another bastardization of Tinder, which in itself was derivative of Grindr. What would be cool was if this app ended up not being just another dating app. If it actually served as a way for people to look at each other’s tattoos and start conversations about who did their work it could end up being a pretty useful program. This seems to be unlikely though based on the way that the app works. Just like on those other apps a person has to like your pictures before you are able to chat with them. Due to the way people have been conditioned by the aforementioned dating apps it’s likely that they’ll see a mutual “Yup” (that’s what they call them on TatChat) as a sign of attraction more than an appreciation of some ink.

Of course, we could be completely wrong about this. The Kickstarter is still a long way off from its goal so it remains to be seen if TatChat will ever become a reality. And as we have learned in this age of technology, we rarely have any idea what is going to happen with new tech until it has already happened.
