Today’s tattoo of the day is this incredible piece by Alex Noir! Noir is an amazing color realism artist based in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, and the owner of his own studio, Rock-N-Roll Tattoo. His original spin on portraiture is one of our favorite aspects of his work and something displayed beautifully in today’s pick.
Some of you might recognize the face in today’s tattoo as Dave Lizewski, better known by his super hero name Kick-Ass. This comic book character, created by writer Mark Millar, was then brought to life on screen by actor Aaron Johnson in the film adaptation, and eventually recreated as ink in skin by Noir. We absolutely love how Noir chose to depict both Kick-Ass and his secret identity fading into one another, as the character is so monumentally dependent upon both sides.
As far as portrait tattoos go, this is definitely one of our favorites. Not only is the color saturation phenomenal, but the dual tones in the character’s expression read so well. The splash like nature of the Kick-Ass costume is also a fun and somewhat painterly addition that really helps round the piece out. The wearer of this tattoo is one lucky client, and we truly hope both Mark Millar and Aaron Johnson get a chance to check this piece out!
