These Tattoos Turn Scars Into Works of Art

Creative Tattooing at Its Finest

Scars, whether they are earned through self-harm, injury or surgery, can be an eyesore to an otherwise clean canvas. However, there are ways that a tattoo can transform a scar into a beautiful work of art.

Scar coverups are a tricky aspect of the tattoo industry, because tattooing over scar tissue can be harder to work with as an artist and extremely painful for the client. But, this doesn’t mean that it can’t be done.

People tattoo over scars and stretch marks every day, often relying on a tattooer’s imagination to create a design that will properly hide the scar. However, for some clients, instead of hiding the scar from sight, they instead create a design around it.

Over the years, we’ve seen a number of tattoos that use scars as a visible component in a tattoo and its amazing that clients are able to have a fresh start in such a creative way.

After all, scars are nothing to be ashamed of and they are parts of our bodies that help to tell our stories. Therefore, in some cases, they should be celebrated and flaunted instead of hidden from sight.

Crafting a scar tattoo requires a considerable amount of creativity on the part of the artist, not just because scar tissue is difficult to work with but because each and every scar is completely unique.

The unique patterns, colors and textures of a scar must be taken in account in order to create a truly spectacular tattoo. An artist needs to look at a scar and think, “What can I do with this weird, asymmetrical piece of tissue to make it a readable and pleasing design?”

So, if you have a scar that you want to incorporate into your next tattoo, why take it to your artist of choice and see if they have a creative idea. You might be surprised by an artist’s ability to pull a masterpiece out of a scar you’re looking to cover up.

However, it is important to address that not every tattooer will feel comfortable tattooing over or around scar tissue. And this is okay, because in order to make this concept work, you need someone who is 100% confident in their ability to make your dream a reality. Whether you’re tattooing over scar tissue or not, there is an artist out there for everyone and you want to find your perfect match in the end.

What do you think about these creative scar coverup tattoos? Would you cover or incorporate a scar into a tattoo? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section on Facebook.
