These Will Be the Top 10 Tattoo Trends of 2019
Can You Predict Next Year's Top Tattoo Trends?
While we’re not even halfway through November, the tattoo community is already planning for 2019. Whether it be booking conventions around the world or booking appointments at their resident shop—the industry is always looking ahead. And it’s no different here at INKED Magazine, because we love investigating what the tattoo trends of tomorrow will be. Therefore, we’re stoked to discuss and evaluate what we predict will be the top tattoo trends of 2019. From face tattoos to micro pieces, we’ve covered every genre and style imaginable in one top 10 list. Take a look at our spot on predictions in the gallery below and let us know which trend from our list you’d like to see in 2019 in the comments section on Facebook.
X-Ray Tattoos
While we love a good flower tattoo, there’s something extra special when it’s given an x-ray effect. We predict that there will be plenty more x-ray tattoos in 2019, following the trend of NYC artist Joice Wang.
Barbed Wire Tattoos
Barbed wire tattoos were a huge trend during the late 1990s and early 2000s, however, they later faded out of fashion. However, thanks to celebrities like Post Malone, they’re now making a comeback.
Inner Ear Tattoos
Inner ear or helix tattoos will become even more popular in 2019, with more artists putting their unique spin on the unconventional location.
Fine-Line Face Tattoos
Following in the footsteps of celebrities like Justin Bieber, we predict a rise in the number of fine-line face tattoos. These subtle yet edgy tattoos are perfect for people that want to make a bold statement, yet don’t want to entirely face the consequences of job stopping tattoos.
Disney Tattoos
This tattoo by British artist Jordan Baker blew up on social media, proving that there is a way to put a creative twist on Disney tattoos. We imagine that many other artists will replicate this technique and prove that the magic never truly dies out.
Sticker Tattoos
Sergey Shanko gets all the credit for creating the sticker tattoo hype and we’ve already seen artists take the plunge by adding a popping white outline around their tattoos. We can’t wait to see where this trend goes next.
Gory Tattoos
Although people have been getting gory tattoos for years, for some strange reason we’ve been seeing a lot of them lately. And while they might frighten a few people at the grocery store, we say go for it.
Color Realism Micro Tattoos
Micro tattoos have been a staple of tattoo culture over the past few years, however, only recently have we seen them become trendy in color. Typically and traditionally done in black-and-grey, many tattooers will add bold colors to their tiny tats in 2019.
Jawline Tattoos
Yet another face tattoo trend that we’ll see everywhere in 2019: jawline tattoos. These tattoos can be done in a variety of styles and like the one above, they can be totally badass.
Mixed Media Tattoos
Perhaps the biggest tattoo trend that will dominate 2019 is mixed media. These tattoos incorporate a variety of styles into them to create a graphic and engaging design. We love this piece by Dave Paulo, which incorporates color realism, black-and-grey, new school and script.
