49er QB Kaepernick Gets Ink By Carlos Torres
Like many of Kaepernick’s tattoos the new ink is biblically themed; Torres called it a “money is the root of all evil” tattoo on his Instagram.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick recently added to his already extensive collection of tattoos by getting an enormous side piece inked by the illustrious Carlos Torres.
Like many of Kaepernick’s tattoos the new ink is biblically themed; Torres called it a “money is the root of all evil” tattoo on his Instagram. The immaculately detailed tattoo features a woman’s hand grabbing an apple from a tree with a serpent wrapped around the arm. Extremely realistic appearing $100 bills are mixed in among the roots and leaves of the tree.
After the quarterback posted pictures of his new ink more than a few fans responded via Twitter to say that it seemed a bit hypocritical for a man who had just signed a contract extension for six years and $126 million to bemoan wealth. Kaepernick quickly responded to the criticism.
“Yall perspective is so narrow you don’t realize what’s really being said?” Kaepernick tweeted. “I know what Tim 6:10 says but love is not the only factor.”
Many have simplified the scripture Kaepernick is referencing to “money is the root of all evil” when the full quote says that it is the coveting of money above all else that leads to evil; a small but substantial difference.
Regardless of whether you agree with the sentiment behind Kaepernick’s tattoo one really has to tip their cap to the work done by Torres on this piece.
Unfortunately we won’t be seeing this ink in EA’s “Madden 15”—the new installment of the popular franchise will feature Kaepernick’s actual tattoos—unless there is some sort of “shirtless” mode we weren’t aware of.

Hooked on Ink
Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
