Hilary Duff just released a casual little backyard video to accompany her new heartbreak track “Tattoo,” number ten off of her latest album Breathe In. Breathe Out. The entirety of the album, “Tattoo” especially, seems to be the response to her recent divorce from former NHL player Mike Comrie. We wonder if he’s been keeping up with Duff’s big comeback? TV Land’s Younger star captioned one of her many Instagram selfies, “My [heart] is in this record, go get my [heart]!”
Her video for “Tattoo” differs completely from that of her hit single “Sparks,” in which she dances arrhythmically while clad in Lisa Frank inspired fashion and tests the Tinder waters. Instead, “Tattoo” hones in on Duff’s vulnerable side, and ironically enough, shows off not one of her “super hardcore, gangster” tattoos. You guessed it, the song title plays on the idea that relationships leave battle wounds that last forever, like a tattoo. Duff sings, “On my skin, running in my bloodstream. These scars are the way that you loved me. I guess that you had to leave a tattoo to remind me.” You may hate us for saying this, very well, but one listen to this lullaby and her Disney, pop-y, sweet little voice will sing in your head for the rest of the night.
Breathe In. Breathe Out. was released on Tuesday, June 16 and comes almost a decade after the star shied away from the pop music scene. Duff took over a Target store hours after its release and announced her presence via loudspeaker, encouraging shoppers to head to the electronics section and pick up an album. To avoid a fatal stampede, Duff assured customers they best “walk, don’t run!” On that same day, Breathe In. Breathe Out. went straight to number one on the iTunes top albums list and has taken up residency there since. Way to go, Hilary!

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
