For the last couple of weeks we have been racking our brains trying to figure out the meaning behind Kylie Jenner’s latest addition to her tattoo collection. The youngest member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan has been accumulating tattoos at a rapid rate since she turned 18 and each of her pieces seems to have some backstory behind them. When fans first got a glimpse of the red tattoo on her arm it was so small that it was impossible to tell what exactly tattooist Jon Boy had inked, but thanks to an Instagram post by Jenner we now know the story behind the ink—it is a tribute to her grandparents.
The simple script in red ink reads, “Mary Jo.” As explained on her Instagram, Mary Jo is Jenner’s grandmother. As if having her grandmother’s name tattooed on her arm wasn’t sweet enough to get you choked up, the tattoo is in her grandfather’s handwriting. When viewed in this context you can see how lovingly the name has been written. Hats off to Jenner for getting such a well thought out tattoo. When most 18-year-olds are getting the first thing to float into their head tattooed on them—only to be lasered off a couple of years down the road—Jenner came up with a touching concept that will never lose its meaning for her as years go by.
This is not the first time that we have lauded Jenner for thinking outside of the box for her tattoo ideas. Back in December Jenner had the phonetic spelling of the word “sanity” inked onto her hip by Bang Bang, thus marking the first time that grammar nerds and Keeping Up with the Kardashians fans saw eye-to-eye on something.
We look forward to seeing what sort of tattoo Jenner comes up with next, but the one thing we know we can count on is that it won’t be boring flash off of the wall. And it will probably be in red.

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
