Shortly after getting a brand new tattoo from renowned artist Bang Bang, Kylie Jenner decided that she wanted to try her hand at his craft. This may sounds like two friends having a little bit of innocent fun in the tattoo shop but in the eyes of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene it’s something a little more serious—a health code violation.
The laws regarding tattooing are relatively strict within the Big Apple—the profession was outlawed between 1961 and 1997—and it is against the law for a person without a license to handle a tattoo machine. Even if they are really famous and under the watchful eye of a skilled professional the law is the law.

Of course, no one would have known about the inking if it wasn’t for the double edge sword that is social media. While many of Bang Bang’s million plus followers viewed the Instagram video as an example of the artist sharing a really cool experience he had, others saw it as an example of him flaunting that he was breaking the law. The video might end up costing Bang Bang quite a lot of cash, as TMZ is reporting that his shop may be facing a fine in the neighborhood of $300-$1000. At the very least they will be served with a warning, and likely, a bit of extra scrutiny in the future.
If Jenner wants to continue her fledgling tattoo career we recommend that she throw down $126 to take the three hour Infection Control Examination test and apply for a two year license with the city of New York.
