Hilary Duff—the actress/pop star whose tattoos make her feel like a “super hardcore gangster”— has recently jumped back into the acting game with her new TV Land show “The Younger.” Next month, she jumps back into the music game—after a seven year hiatus—with her new album “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” So why shouldn’t 27-year-old star, who recently filed for divorce from retired NHL player Mike Comrie, also get back into the dating game? Her new video for her latest single “Spark” chronicles Duff’s trip into the wonderful world of online dating via the app Tinder.
It wasn’t long ago that Duff admitted in a radio interview that, yes, it was true, she really was on Tinder. When she was asked what she was doing on Tinder, she replied, “What is everyone doing on Tinder?” Unfortunately, that’s not exactly the side of Tinder that we see in the video.
“In my life I’ve always had really serious boyfriends,” Duff explains in the new video that intercuts footage of her interview with choreographed dance scenes, candid shots of two Tinder dates, and moments with her friends as she sets up her profile and picks her dates. “I’ve always met people through work, and I’ve never been on a blind date.”
What Duff says started out as a joke between her and her girlfriends, eventually became more serious—or at least serious enough to be a music video idea. “I just never thought anything was going to really happen,” she says in an interview portion of the video, “and then I was like talking to a few of the guys and they’re really normal.”
As the video progresses through her Tinder adventure and takes us along with her on her first Tinder bowling date and her second date go kart racing, the message that Duff ends the video with is made clear: “Go do something crazy. Go do something you wouldn’t do before.”
