Susan Sarandon Got Inked – See Her New Tattoo Photos Here!

Susan Sarandon once said that you’re never too old to get a tattoo, and the 69-year-old actress proved that fact earlier this week, when she went under the needle for a new tattoo at the East Side Ink tattoo shop in New York City. Photos of Susan Sarandon’s tattoo session were posted on Instagram by tattoo artist Jessica Mascitti, and Sarandon herself also posted some shots of her actual tattoo on her Twitter page.

This new tattoo of Sarandon’s features an image of what looks like a stylized letter “A” forming a wave on her left forearm—a matching piece she got with her son, Miles Robbins. In addition to this new arm tattoo, Sarandon has several other permanent pieces, many of which came later in her life. “I was never that wild,” Sarandon said during an interview with The Telegraph in 2010, “although I was a bit of a hippie chick. I think I probably still am a hippie chick.”

Hippie or not, Sarandon loves getting inked and her collection includes a piece encircling her wrist that reads “andand,” an inspirational tat that stands for “A New Dawn A New Day.” According to the actress, “It’s supposed to remind me that if there are disappointments or mistakes, the next day I can just start again. One of my strongest attributes is being able to change direction when I’m given the gift of something I didn’t anticipate.”

When asked in 2008 about getting new tattoos at her age, Susan Sarandon gave a carefree but self-assured answer: “Why not? I turned 60 and after a while you think, ‘Well I’ve only got my body for a few more years anyway.’” It was with this in mind that, when her daughter, Eva, went to get a tattoo of the word “conscious,” Sarandon decided to get one on her back featuring the first letters of each of her three children’s names, Miles, Eva and Jack Henry. She even got her very first tattoo before her son, Jack, could get one. “Jack was a little upset that I got one before he did. Maybe it’s bad for kids when they don’t have anything to rebel against,” she said during a 2012 interview, “There were things that I was strict about [as a parent], but not tattoos.”

So when Sarandon and her son Miles decided to get matching tattoos together, they opted for a tribute to the actress’ late brother, Terry Tomalin, an outdoor editor for the Tampa Bay Times, who died of a heart attack in May. The arm tattoo dedicated to her brother was obviously something Sarandon had planned for a while, because she captioned the Twitter pic of the fresh ink, “Mission accomplished.”
