13 Tips to Make Tattoos Hurt Less

Whether getting your first taste of ink or filling in the last inch of skin on your body, this gallery of tips from our experts is a MUST READ for anyone who's into ink!

Getting A Tattoo Doesn’t Need to Suck

It’s very important to do your research before going under the needle, especially if it’s your first time. We here at Inked believe that the more you know about the process, the more enjoyable your experience will be and the happier you will be with the result.

The stigma that tattoos are extremely painful is, unfortunately, kind of true. Don’t let that discourage you, though- once you get used to it it’s kind of just a prick and scratch sensation. After all, the needle is literally puncturing your epidermis and injecting ink into the dermis (the second layer of skin). So when you look at someone’s tattoo, you’re actually seeing the design underneath the outer layer of their skin.

What people don’t talk about enough however, is how you can minimize your discomfort by just being informed. Getting a tat is a lifetime commitment and it shouldn’t be something you rush into. We’ve talked with our experts and our staff to come up with this guide of tips, tricks, and good ole’ fashioned advice on how to walk away from the parlor feeling great and happy with your finished product.
