James Corden really dodged a bullet on Thursday night’s episode of The Late Late Show. With British pop group and heartthrobs One Direction on the show Corden decided to play a game of tattoo roulette.
For three members of the band this wasn’t that big of a deal—Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson all have extensive tattoo collections. Corden and 1D member Niall Horan boast completely virgin skin on the other hand. Throughout the game you can see the palpable fear on their faces as each subsequent box is revealed. Corden celebrated as if he has just one a million dollars when he learns that he is safe from the tattoo machine for the evening.
In the end it came down to Styles and Horan with the latter so stirred that his hands were shaking. Luckily for him it was Styles that ended up getting the ink. A tattoo artist was set up and waiting directly in front of Reggie Watts and The Late Late Show Band and within minutes Styles had a little jammer reading “Late Late” on his arm. As you can see, it can be really nerve wracking to be tattooed on the spot like this but at least Styles was in good hands—Isaiah “Boo Boo” Negrete was the one guiding the machine. If you have to get a tattoo due to losing a game of tattoo roulette it’s certainly comforting to have such a skilled artist do the work.
While we love the idea of doing a tattoo roulette bit we can’t help but wonder if the outcome wasn’t fixed. Styles is the face of the band and the most tattooed, seems a little convenient if you ask me. We really wanted to see a One Direction tattoo going onto Corden, can you even imagine what a fuss he would make while being tattooed? Now that would have been classic.
