Mandy Moore Explains the Meaning Behind the Odd Sperm Tattoo on Her Foot
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Mandy Moore in front of the camera, but the 32-year-old actress and singer-songwriter stars in the hit new NBC series This Is Us, and in a recent interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Moore talked about her experience on the show, the big twist in the premier that no one saw coming…and the sperm tattoo on her foot. Mandy Moore’s foot tattoo is actually completely unrelated to her new show, but the story behind it is definitely worth telling.
Okay, so, Mandy Moore’s tattoo was actually done about ten years ago, while touring with her band, and is, believe it or not, a matching tattoo she got as an act of solidarity with her bandmates. According to Moore, she was the only female member of the band while they were touring, and therefore had her own day room and shower, while all the male band members had to share a room and shower. As such, the guys banned masturbating in the shower. “It became this big joke, because one of my band members was like, ‘I don’t want babies on my feet.’ And so we created a song called ‘Babies on My Feet’ that we sang on stage every night.”
Obviously, no one in the audience ever had any idea what Mandy Moore and her band members were singing about, but to them, it was a hilarious joke that they wanted to remember forever. So, “to commemorate the tour, we all got babies on our feet, so I have a little sperm tattoo,” Moore says in her interview with Seth Meyers. Mandy Moore’s tattoo is inked on the inside of her left foot, and, believe it or not, features a tiny swimming sperm done in black ink. And, to keep things legit, Mandy Moore’s stunt double on This Is Us has to have a fake sperm tattoo drawn on her foot each day during filming.
Looking at Mandy Moore’s unassuming ankle tattoo, you might assume that the ink is just a bit of dirt or permanent marker, which is exactly what the actress’ pedicurist thought back when she had it inked. “Right after I got [the tattoo], I went and got a pedicure, and the woman was like, ‘Honey, I have tried to scrub this off. I can’t get at that. It looks like it’s permanent marker on your foot.” We have to hand it to Mandy Moore though, she doesn’t appear to regret her sperm tattoo at all, and that’s pretty impressive.
