For seemingly forever horror fanatics, like us, have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the perfect horror film. What we crave is a movie that not only has over the top gore but also a story that haunts your memories long after the film has ended. We’re talking about a film that combines the campy nudity of the classic slasher movies with innovative violence unlike anything we have ever seen. It appears that maybe, just maybe, Rob Zombie‘s 31 will be the answer to our prayers (made to Lucifer, of course).
The reason that we are so optimistic is that Zombie has had the devil’s time getting the MPAA to give him an R rating. He’s had to cut scene after scene of what we can only imagine to be blood curdling imagery in order to get an R rating.
“Well, after two tries through the MPAA our rating on 31 remains NC-17,” Zombie wrote in a Facebook post. “Maybe three is the charm to get an R rating. Why R you ask? Well, because your local theater will not show an NC-17. Even though you are a fucking adult… things must be censored for your enjoyment.”
It turns out that Zombie was right and that the third time was a charm, 31 has been blessed with an R rating and will be heading to theaters all over the country in the not-too-distant future. Now, are we bummed out about the scenes that inevitably ended up on the cutting room floor? Of course! But, getting an R rating means that the movie will be getting released and the much publicized fight for the rating basically assures us that there will be a director’s cut DVD featuring the movie in its entirety.
The trimmed down version of 31 will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival later this month. To get you pumped up for the movie check out some of the stills that have been released in the gallery below.
