When Lady Gaga starts a new project, she becomes the project. When she was standing against the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, she wore meat to the 2010 VMAs. When she was promoting her Born This Way album, she arrived to the 2011 Grammys in an egg. Now, in anticipation of American Horror Story: Hotel, the transformative Gaga took her character of The Countess off screen and onto the Emmys red carpet, but not without her tattoos.
With the creative Gaga on board of AHS Hotel, the series is focusing a lot on fashion. Naturally, the style icon channeled The Countess in an elegant black gown by Brandon Maxwell, complete with a bleached blonde bob and big diamonds. The classic look had a modern twist, though. Gaga accessorized with all of her left side and shoulder tattoos, taking it from 1950 charm to 2015 glamour. Maxwell, a friend of Gaga’s who made his runway debut at the recent New York Fashion Week (with full support from the future Mrs. Taylor Kinney), built the gown as if its intentions were to showcase her ink.
Lady Gaga presented the award to Richard Jenkins for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for Olive Kitterage. Gaga was a class act in saying, “Although I love toasting to women, tonight I’m here for the men,” before calling on Jenkins to receive the award. We fully expect to see Gaga on the receiving end next year.
Did we mention The Countess arrived to the Emmys in a white Rolls Royce Phantom? Every GIF you need to see of the one-and-only Lady Gaga is in the gallery. Plus, we had to share one of the fierce AHS Hotel teasers below.
American Horror Story: Hotel airs on Wednesday, October 7.
