Dave Grohl Tattoos a Tribute to Lemmy

Since his death was announced on Monday, music lovers all over the world have been finding ways to pay tribute to Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. in the last 48 hours gallons of Jack Daniels have been consumed, multiple eardrums have likely been blown and at least one famous rock star got a tribute tattoo for Lemmy—Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.

The rocker had a small ace of spades tattooed on to his left forearm, an obvious allusion to Motörhead’s most famous song. The tattoo was inked by RoyalTattooist and it appears to be a fitting tribute to the late singer, the tattoo will sit just like an ace up Grohl’s sleeve from now on.

In a statement on the Foo Fighters’ Facebook the band said, “We’ve lost a friend & legend. My heart is broken. RIP Lemmy. Born To Lose, Lived To Win.” Grohl worked alongside Kilmister on more than one occasion—Kilmister not only provided vocals for Grohl’s Probot project, he also starred in the Foo Fighters’ video for “White Limo.”

Grohl was far from the only member of the rock world to express his sorrow over Kilmister’s death, although he is the only one to get tattooed as far as we know. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett said that “Lemmy was the finest of gentlemen” and that the rock icon “made it OK to be an outsider.” Ozzy Osbourne tweeted, “Lots one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He was a warrior and a legend.” Travis Barker said, “You are and you always will be a rock god and one of the best to ever do it. You inspired many, through your music, may you live on forever.”
