The virtual band we all know and love is done making us wait. Gorillaz are back with their newest addition to their musical universe, an album titled “Cracker Island” coming out on February 24. In 2020 the band released the vibrantly eclectic project known as “Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez.” As all over the place as it was, the album was everything Gorillaz fans could’ve possibly asked for in terms of a jam-packed expedition featuring some of the most talented musical minds of our generation.

The brainchild of musician Damon Albarn and illustrator Jamie Hewlett, Gorillaz have been cementing themselves as one of music’s most unique acts since their self-titled debut in 2001. A band composed of cartoon characters, each member stole fans’ hearts with their idiosyncratic features and personalities. Musically, the band’s sound rocked the world with its all-encompassing brand of indie rock, electropop, trip hop, and myriad other genres. The band’s subsequent albums delve deep into the inner workings of the artists’ minds, manifesting as experimental bangers that transform catchy indie bops into full-fledged cinematic experiences.

The continually expanding world of Gorillaz is a non-stop generator for some absolutely stellar tattoos. Their vivid palette makes for a flashy pop of color amidst your typical black and gray patchwork, and their wacky, eccentric visuals can be an eye-catching statement piece that’ll prompt questions from any curious onlooker. You could go the intuitive route and get one or more of the distinctive band members, be it 2D’s coy and goofy expression or Murdoc’s sinister smirk. There’s also the option of inking an instantly recognizable element from the Gorillaz realm, such as the windmill from the “Feel Good Inc.” music video or the towering island structure from the cover of “Plastic Beach.”

Whichever you choose, it’s sure to age just as beautifully as the band’s music has from the very beginning. Here’s to some stunning tattoos from the enigmatic world of weirdos that is Gorillaz.
