Iconic Hatsune Miku Tattoos
Have you heard of virtual idols?
While you may have seen her adorable face, how much do you really know about Hatsune Miku? At first glance, you might think Hatsune Miku comes from a popular anime; however, she’s actually a moe anthropomorphism. Moe anthropomorphisms are characters, often resembling the anime drawing style, used by companies in Japan to represent their brand. Hatsune Miku, with her iconic turquoise twin-tails and vocaloid music software origin, has become a global sensation. Fans around the world celebrate her with Hatsune Miku tattoos, making her a cherished symbol of virtual idol culture and innovation.
In Hatsune Miku’s case, she’s the official moe antropomorphism for a vocaloid software voicebank that was first released by Crypton Future Media in 2007. Hatsune Miku is marketed as a virtual idol, which is a popular concept throughout Japan and has been showcased in the West through English alternative rock band Gorillaz. Her voice is modeled off of Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita and she’s designed as a 16-year-old girl with long, turquoise ponytails. Her name comes from the Japanese words for first (hatsu), sound (ne) and future (miku), which come together as “the first sound of the future.”
Since debuting 15 years ago, Hatsune Miku has been featured in over 100,000 unique songs worldwide. She’s performed in numerous 3-D soldout concerts and has millions of online fans. She even made her American network television debut in 2014 by performing on the “Late Show with David Letterman.”
In honor of Hatsune Miku’s ongoing legacy, take a look at some of our favorite tattoos of the international singing sensation in the gallery below. Then let us know your thoughts on this moe antropomorphism in the comments section on social media.
