Jaw-Dropping Geometric Tattoos

Someone who isn’t very familiar with tattoos might hear the term “geometric tattoo” and think, “how could that ever look good on someone’s skin?” They’re fair to assume that, because their instinct claims that bold, sharp and angular shapes couldn’t flow naturally on the body. But that’s simply not the case with most geometric tattoos, and certainly not for these dedicated artists who’ve mastered the craft.

Geometric tattoos can take shape in infinite forms, whether that be wicked optical illusions, logarithmic spirals or puzzling tessellations. A well-done geometric tattoo will not only have defined shapes, but manage to utilize their space on the body in the most effective ways. While straight lines and sharp edges may seem contradictory to our human anatomy, artists have found a way to make people’s tattoos look like they were always meant to be there.

COREY DIVINE

Featured in a recent issue of Inked Magazine, Divine specializes in meticulous and hallucinogenic sacred geometry, turning his subjects from humans into portals to another universe. Many of his pieces are large-scale, interweaving various patterns into one another to create a next-level geometric quilt. With Divine’s stunning work, there’s always more than meets the eye.

ROXX

Nothing stands out like a tattoo from Roxx. Their pitch dark blackwork combined with crisp geometric structures results in an otherworldly spectacle. Although their designs are sharp and angular, this doesn’t stop them from seamlessly blending into the natural contour of the body and creating a profile that is half human, half walking mosaic. It’s a wonder how they render such proportional designs on the fluid canvas that is human skin, but they manage to land it with perfection every time.

CACO MENEGAZ

Lots of Menegaz’s artwork looks like an ancient tile pattern found exclusively in churches and museums. Each piece is incredibly detailed and expansive, and it’s difficult not to get immersed in the labyrinth of designs he creates. His opaque blackout combined with supremely precise linework is undoubtedly worthy of praise.

DOTSTOLINES

As his moniker suggests, Chaim Machlev uses the most basic and fundamental shapes to create completely mind-bending works of art. From head-scratching optical illusions to pieces that beckon the connection of two or more body parts, Machlev completely sets himself apart in that every piece not only has a geometric angle, but incorporates the anatomy in innovative ways. He also proves that oftentimes, less is more, and you don’t need an overly-elaborate piece to make a statement.

DES THEX

If you have a condition known as trypophobia, or the fear of clusters of holes, THEX’s work might be a little hard to stomach. His intricate, spiral designs are composed of hundreds of thousands of tiny shapes that only a select few artists have the patience to create. From hypnotizing swirls to overlapping layers of honeycombs, staring at any of THEX’s work for too long will cause you to get dizzy.

SEBASTIAN ECHEVERRIA

Echeverria’s tattoos will have you questioning your eyesight. His giant mandala sleeves are transportive, using just black and grey to materialize artworks so vivid they appear to move and jump around on the skin. Echeverria also proves that mandalas can be placed anywhere, whether it be on the wrist, shoulder or even on your neck. Each one of his designs transforms the skin into an entrancing maze, perplexing illusion or purely sick graphic.

TOMAS TOMAS

Based at Black Moon Tattoo in Japan, Tomas transforms his clients into multi-dimensional patchworks that bend and alter reality. His distorted mazes, geometric tribal patterns and interlocking angular motifs never cease to mesmerize, and make for a perfect psychedelic sleeve or backpiece.

RAPHA LOPES

Perhaps the most intricate fine line artist on this list, Lopes’ works look like giant blueprints for the most sophisticated and ambitious inventions of all time. Lopes’ designs are what I imagine the future on steroids to look like. They’re absolutely breathtaking, and take geometric tattoos to a level that was previously unfathomable.
