Kat Von D Blacks Out Her Tattoos
Check out the artist's new ink.
Kat Von D has been getting tattoos for decades and in that time, she’s changed a lot. She’s starred in a number of television shows, started a successful beauty company and had a baby. But, perhaps one of her biggest changes is her sobriety. Von D’s sobriety has made her reevaluate many things in her life, most recently, her tattoo collection.
On December 15th, 2020 Von D took to Instagram to show off her new right arm, which features a large blackout portion that begins on her hand and extends to the elbow. The blackout piece was done by HoodeTattoos, a blackout specialist based in Philadelphia.
“Feels so good to finally cover up so many of the tattoos I got back when I used to drink,” Von D shares in her post. “Those tattoos meant nothing to me but landmarks in dark times, and I’m so lucky to have the best blackout artist @hoode215 cover them up for me! Now my arm looks so nice and clean, and the portrait of my Father stands out even more.”
Fans of Von D may remember that this isn’t her first blackout experience with HoodeTattoos, as she blacked out a large portion of her left forearm back in November of 2019. At the time, Von D received a large amount of criticism for this tattoo, prompting her to speak out in favor of her decision on her most recent post:
“PS. Before anyone feels inspired to negatively criticize my tattoo, please remember that not everyone connects with the same things,” Von D says. “I’ve been tattooing well over 2 decades and have seen so many tattoos in my lifetime that I personally would never get, yet feel happy for the wearer because it means something to them. I don’t think there should be room for criticism when it comes to self expression, and a tattoo is personal to the person wearing it. So thank you ahead of time for being respectful. Much love!”

Tattoo enthusiasts often claim addiction, but true addiction involves chemical and psychological dependence. Obsessive love for tattoos is not the same as addiction.
