15 Stunning Notre-Dame Tattoos
Take a look at tattoo interpretations of the stunning Parisian cathedral
Introduced to Paris in 1160 and completed in 1260, Notre-Dame de Paris is one of the most prolific cathedrals in world history. Created in the French Gothic style, Our Lady of Paris is known for her innovative ribbed vault and spectacular flying buttresses. In the 1790s, Notre-Dame suffered immense damage during the French Revolution and was later restored by notorious ruler Napoléon Bonaparte. During the early 19th century, the cathedral became the star of novelist Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, which became a Walt Disney Pictures feature film in 1996.
During the 1990s, the city began making repairs to the cathedral and by the late 2010s, a 100 million euro project began renovate the exterior of Notre-Dame. At the end of 2018, the cathedral’s spire began to be repaired and constructed continued into early 2019. This led up to the fire on April 15th, 2019 which caused the collapse of the spire and the oak roof. Fortunately, the facade, towers, stained glass windows, buttresses, and pipe organ were untouched, as well as the copper statues which were removed for repairs a week prior.
