Talented Tattoo Artists Show Their Humble Beginnings

Every great tattoo artist had to start somewhere

Whether they’re a master of realism or traditional, every tattoo superstar started off as a beginner. Regardless of how talented they were on paper, tattooing is a brand new beast and it takes years to perfect the craft. If you’re new to tattooing, you might look at the amazing artists on Instagram and think, “Well, I’ll never be that good.” However, no one in the history of tattooing picked up a machine for the first time and banged out a flawless portrait or a technically exact Japanese dragon. They worked for years to hone their skills, both artistically and technically, to reach where they are today.

It might surprise you that the best artists in the world are still working day in and day out to improve. That’s right, even the guy with over a million followers on Instagram notices where he can get better and will do everything he can to make the next tattoo better than the last. Take a look at a few examples off talented tattoo artists showing how far they’ve come in the gallery below, then let us know your thoughts on this story in the comments section.

Alright, after I received several emails, and comments about, me switching the style ( from realistic to neotrad) outta the blue… Well it wasn’t like that, I was still doing side-by-side Realistic and my style… Was a slow transition. . . Why i changed? Well I believe that imagination beats knowledge,( so i prefer draw something with some references rather then mix pictures from google). . . Hard work beats talent .( if u study and work hard u will stsrt seeying progress on ur work, if u have talent , well congratulations! But dont stop striving for more! No one knows everything!)) . And most important of all …. i believe black lines or a black background is the key for a long term tattoo.(( color tattoos can hold but theres no color that beats black)) . . . . ((( thats my opinion, thats what i saw on my works, I’m not saying is right or im right! Im just talking about self experience)) . . Anyway, if you have questions , leave a comment and share ur ideas and thoughts!! . . . Again this is my pespective towards my work.

Reposted from @inkoutsideofthebox (@get_regrann) – This announcement is bittersweet for me. Daniel will be leaving the team at No Love Lost Tattoos in January to pursue his dreams in Calgary @bosstattoos He is like a son to me, having started his apprenticeship with me shortly after I opened my studio and continuing to work beside me for four years. I have had the pleasure of watching him grow as an artist and as a person. Now, it is time for him to spread his wings and fly off to new adventures. I am so extremely proud of him and all that he has accomplished. It’s almost hard to believe that only a short time ago, I was teaching him about tattoo machines and getting him to tattoo fruit as practice and now he’s doing world class, realistic tattooing! He has really made a name for himself in the tattoo industry and been a huge part of our little tattoo family. I am very honoured that I got to play a small role in his tattoo education and I am blessed that I get to call him my friend. Myself and the entire team here at No Love Lost will really miss him and sincerely wish him all the best with his future endeavours. Good luck to you, Daniel-san! And you better come back to visit us often! ☮️

Being a tattooist and a creative in general you’re always picking apart your own work. I’m always trying to find ways to better my work or different ways of doing things but always doubt myself with making progress, especially seeing so many amazing tattooists out there. I stumbled across this today thanks to Facebook and it was quite a nice thing to see how I’ve progressed from when I’d just gone full time tattooing and leaving my retail job to how I work now. It was pretty cool to see! Forever learning! ❤️

There’s always room to grow.. I want to take a moment to appreciate all of my clients and also @nikvujovic @ailfling @renetat2 @jvaughntattoo. that have allowed to get where I am today. I wouldn’t be where Im at If it weren’t for you guys. It means the world to me. Skull on the left is back when I tatted out of my house. I started tattooing back in 07. Middle skull was my first year at a shop. Crazy how much you can learn in little time when working around others.. @parkerbarrowtattoo @empireinks @fkirons @afterinked @fytcartridges @fytloyalty @wisconsintattooartists #tattooprogress #progress #hardwork #dedication #motivation #push #startedfromthebottom #keeponkeepingon #neverstop #grow #ink #tattoos #bng #blackandgrey #blackandgreytattoo #skull #skulls #2010 #2014 #2018 #mfgilley #parkerandbarrowtattoo #empireinks #fytcartridges #afterinked #fkirons
