Next Stop: Train Tattoos
Do you love trains?
It’s time to talk trains and no, we’re not talking about the rock band from San Francisco. Trains are one of the oldest and most popular forms of modern transportation. The first modern trains were created during the early 1800s, however, at this time, they were still powered by horses. The first electric trains were developed in the early 20th century and decades later, diesel became the primary fuel of trains worldwide.
Trains are a big part of popular culture, both as characters and as settings for dynamic storytelling. Perhaps the most notable train in all of media history is Thomas the Tank Engine, an anthropomorphized steam locomotive who made his debut in 1945. Other trains of note include “The Polar Express,” the Hogwarts Express of the Harry Potter film and book series, the Orient Express of “Murder on the Orient Express,” the Snowpiercer of “Snowpiercer,” the high-speed train of “Train to Busan” and the train of Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic “Strangers on a Train.”
We know that in addition to inspiring plenty of writers, directors and show-runners, trains have also been the source of inspiration for thousands of tattoo artists. There are countless incredible train tattoos out there and we’ve managed to wrangle together a few of our favorites. Take a peek at the gallery below to see 45 terrific train tattoos from world class artists, then let us know your thoughts on this story in the comments section on social media.
