35 Wonderful ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Tattoos
Who's your favorite "The Wizard of Oz" character?
The year 1900 was over 120 years ago and our world has changed a lot since then. But, what hasn’t changed is culture’s love and appreciation for “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” The story we know and love was first published as a book by American author L. Frank Baum, who’d go on to write an astounding 13 sequels to the original novel. His story was adapted into a Broadway musical in 1902, then nearly 40 years after the book was published, it made it’s live action debut.
Often regarded as one of the greatest movies of all time, this film featured the legendary actor Judy Garland as the film’s protagonist Dorothy. The film dazzled audiences with the spectacular technicolor set and costumes, as well as the stunning special effects. It was a big success at that year’s Academy Awards, snagging the award for Best Original Song with “Over the Rainbow.” It was nominated for Best Picture, but it ultimately lost out to “Gone with the Wind.” This film set up an impressive career for Garland, who’d go on to appear in other successful films such as “Meet Me in St. Louis” and “A Star is Born.”
In later years, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” earned even more celebrated adaptions, such as 1978’s “The Wiz,” 2013’s “Oz the Great and Powerful,” and 2005’s “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz.” And of course, we cannot forget Broadway’s “Wicked.” In honor of the story that’s brought magic to millions, take a peek at 35 of our favorite tattoos inspired by “The Wizard of Oz” in the gallery below.
