How Many Sessions Does It Take To Remove A Tattoo

Want to Remove a Tattoo? Here's What You Need to Know

The most common question that people ask laser tattoo removal technicians is, “how many sessions it will take” to remove a tattoo. And unfortunately, the answer isn’t as simple as most people would like to hear. Laser tattoo removal is a complex process that a technician must evaluate on an individualized basis. Everyone comes in with different skin and of course, different tattoos to work with. The age, application and saturation of a tattoo greatly impacts how it will react to a laser—with technicians taking the removal process one session at a time. Some people can have a tattoo virtually disappear, whereas others may need to come back for five, 10 or even 20 sessions.

And while this information might not be what you were exactly looking for today, let’s take a look at some removal progress shots from the specialists at Clean Slate Laser. Clean Slate is one of the leading laser tattoo removal centers and they’ve helped hundreds of clients throughout their five locations. Take a look at some before and after photos in the gallery below, then let us know your thoughts in the comments section on Facebook.

90-95% clearance so far after just 4 sessions on this Lion. Red, Orange, Yellow and Black ink (and a little blue in the eye). 1 more session and it’ll be 100% gone. We tell people all the time, wait longer (12+ weeks) in between sessions and you won’t need as many treatments. lasering more often doesn’t necessarily get rid of the tattoo faster. It just wastes your money and beats the shit out of your skin! #bepatient #makeroomforbetterink #tattooremoval #picosure #cleanslatelaser #bestresults

Thanks @rumblepakk for sharing your healed progress with us. Great results already from just 1 treatment. I’m sure that’ll be completely gone in no time! If anyone else out there has healed results, PLEASE share or send them to us!!! #loveourclients #tattooremoval #picosure

Most laser centers only wait 6-8 weeks between sessions. We wait a minimum of 12 weeks. Some people would rather rush, but after analyzing results from thousands of removals, we’ve found that waiting longer gives you better results with fewer treatments and less risk of scarring. This gentleman waited 6+ months in between sessions and was able to remove his tattoo completely in 2 treatments. Granted this was a light, gray-wash tattoo which are easy to remove, but still, it would have required more sessions if he had only waited 6 weeks. Note: the scar on his wrist was pre-existing and is not from the laser! #tattooremoval #picosure #makeroomfornicerink

I frequently hear people say “fuck laser, just get a cover-up!” Quite often the best solution is to do both. Lasering a tattoo even just once or twice can give your artist SIGNIFICANTLY better options for your cover up. It doesn’t take as much time and money as complete laser removal and your final tattoo will be much better than a straight cover up. This is an example from @buschingtattoo who recently had us lighten his arm so he could get this amazing #hellraiser piece from @nikkohurtado . Thanks Kris! #makeroomfornicerink #picosure #tattooremoval #tattoocoverup

This is a good example of how grey wash/shading removes almost immediately (usually 1-2 treatments) but how line work (more saturated/deeper in the skin) takes longer to completely remove. This tattoo is 90%+ gone after 4 sessions. 1 more and he should be good to go. #tattooremoval #picosure #makeroomfornicerink

We often get asked about the safety and effectiveness of tattoo removal on medium or dark skin. Our unique approach has given us a long track record of successful tattoo removal procedures on medium to dark skin with no scarring or hypopigmentation. Here is a good example of significant fading after 2 laser session with no discoloration to our clients skin. 1 more session and this will be gone completely. #makeroomfornicerink #tattooremoval
