Check Out the Burlesque Babe Heating Up the Northern Hemisphere
Between the 1860s through the 1940s, variety shows known as burlesque were some of the hottest events around. Held in cabarets and clubs in cities around the globe, they popularized the female striptease and gave rise to stars such as Gypsy Lee Rose and inspired cinematic performances of Mae West. After the ’40s, the burlesque scene quieted down for several decades, until it was revived in the 1990s. One of the biggest proponents of the neo-burlesque revival was Heather Renée Sweet, or as she is better known, Dita Von Teese. Von Teese ignited and electrified stages around the world with her tantalizing performances, encouraging other entertainers to but their own spin on the classic art form. And over 25 years later, burlesque has evolved into a variety of unique and exciting genres of performance—often incorporating elements from the worlds of circus and sideshow. One performer who has made a career mixing both the classic and unconventional genres of burlesque is Vancouver performer, Kosmic Kitty. We scoured her social media to find some of her best moves and it’s about time that you became familiar with her impressive body of work. Check out her talent in the gallery below, then let us know what you think of her seductive skillset in the comments section on Facebook.
