The Actor Gets His First Tattoo In the Name of Kidney Disease

Watch as the incredible tattooer Minka Sicklinger gives actor Adam David Thompson to get his first piece of ink. If you don’t yet know Adam David from Mozart in the Jungle or his story arc in Outsiders you will surely be enraptured by his forthcoming Netflix series Godless in which he will play opposite Jeff Daniels. The tattoo is a show of bravery toward the fight Adam David and his brother, Matt, are currently battling with kidney disease. The brothers got the tattoos in honor of National Kidney Month, and to help raise awareness for kidney disease as part of National Kidney Foundation‘s Heart Your Kidneys‘ campaign, creative by Advertising Agency Berlin Cameron.

Matt also went under the needle at Three Kings Studio but this was not his first tattoo rodeo. Upon seeing the custom design Sicklinger drew for Matt, he remarked, “This is how I want to live my life. I don’t want to worry about this disease getting in my way and this is a symbol of that.”

Adam David’s piece was script of his father’s name who died due to complications of kidney disease 10 years ago. As for placement, Adam David choose the inside of his left arm—not the easiest spot for one’s first tattoo. While it may not have been intentional, the selection of the sensitive placement is a nod to the 26 million Americans currently sparring with kidney disease. Symptoms of kidney disease are often hidden, in fact, 90% of adults with the disease don’t even know they have it, so #HeartYourKidneys!
