50 Castle Tattoos Fit for Royalty
Would you get a castle tattoo?
America has many things, from national parks to skyscrapers. But you know what we don’t have a lot of? Castles! Castles were first built during the Middle Ages for royalty and the military. They were classified differently than palaces, as they were fortified. Over the next several hundred years, castles were built throughout the world and introduced architectural features such as curtain walls, arrow slits, gatehouses, moats and portcullises.
There are many famous castles that are still standing today, however, some of our favorites are fictional. First and foremost, there’s Cinderella’s Castle. This castle has become a main symbol of the entire Disney brand and the physical building was first opened in 1971 at the Magic Kingdom. This castle took inspiration from a variety of real castles throughout Europe, including the Château d’Ussé, Neuschwanstein Castle and the Notre-Dame de Paris.
Another popular fictional castle is Hogwarts, which has been the primary setting throughout the Harry Potter series. This castle, which serves as a school of witchcraft and wizardry, is set in Scotland. The majority of the exterior shots were filmed at the Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, England, which also served as the filming location for “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” and “Downton Abbey.”
In honor of all the castles out there, both real and fictional, take a look at 50 of our favorite tattoos from artists around the world in the gallery below. Then let us know your favorite castle in the comments section on social media.
