After Waiting 103 Years, This Grandmother Finally Got A Tattoo

Getting a tattoo was on Dorothy Pollock's bucket list, so she rang in her birthday with her first ink.

Can you imagine waiting 103 years for anything? Even as a not very adventurous individual, I feel like if I’m given a century of life, that I will have done most of the things I’ve wanted to do well before I turn triple digits. Perhaps this is just the foolhardy thoughts of somebody who, while certainly not young, is still nowhere near halfway there. And those things I hadn’t done yet? Well, I’m 99 percent sure I would have given up on them by 100.

Dorothy Pollock, on the other hand, showed far more determination. She decided her 103rd birthday would be the perfect time to cross off one important item from her bucket list—getting tattooed.

There is no way I’ll do anything this cool when—let’s be honest, if—I make it to 103. Pollock, who lives in a nursing home, had been cooped up for months thanks to the pandemic. So when she was able to get out and celebrate, she went all out.

“It was pretty exciting because years ago my grandson wanted me to get one and I wouldn’t do it,” Pollack told CNN. “All of a sudden, I decided I would like to have one. And if I could, a frog. Because I like frogs.”

Believe it or not, getting tattooed isn’t the only item Pollock ticked off the list that day. Once she had her fresh ink, she jumped onto the back of a motorcycle and went for a ride. This would be an eventful day for anybody, but for a 103-year-old grandmother who had been stuck in her nursing home for the past five months? Damn.
