Gerardo Parra Celebrates the World Series Title With a Tattoo

And before you even ask, yes, the tattoo contains a baby shark.

Statistically speaking, Gerardo Parra’s contributions to the Washington Nationals during their run to winning the 2019 World Series were pretty minimal. He went 0-3 with a walk and a run during the seven-game series. Yet, when you ask anybody inside the clubhouse how important Parra’s contributions were, many of them will tell you that the Nationals couldn’t have done it without him.

There are so many elements that go into building a contending ball club, but one that is often overlooked is the need for an enthusiastic player that keeps everybody loose. These are the players that don’t always put up gaudy numbers, but they do stuff behind the scenes that makes the rest of the team better. Think Kevin Millar on the 2004 Red Sox or David Ross on the 2016 Cubs. For the 2019 Nationals, Parra was absolutely that guy.

Parra always kept things fun and loose. Every time he came to the plate he sent the home crowd into a frenzy. Not because of the anticipation that he might hit a 400+ foot homer like his teammate Anthony Rendon, but because of his infectious walk-up tune. Parra came out to “Baby Shark,” the earworm that parents around the world despise, yet still can’t help dancing around to.

So when we heard that Parra got a tattoo celebrating his World Series title we crossed our fingers hoping that Baby Shark would get its due.

❤️❤️promise fulfilled I hope you like it

There it is. Right in the middle of the trophy, sporting the same shades that Parra does when he patrols the outfield. All in all, it’s a pretty sweet tattoo that had a bit of thought put into it. Too often we see players just getting a trophy with no personality or creativity thrown in. Not here.

Parra had the tattoo done by Luis Gil, a tattooer working out of Miami. “It’s an honor to do this tattoo to one of the best baseball players in the world, the Venezuelan countryman Gerardo Parra, the real baby shark,” Gil posted on Instagram.

On his Instagram post, Parra simply said, “❤️❤️promise fulfilled I hope you like it .”

Whether or not you’re a Nationals fan, you’ve got to give Parra and Gil some credit for coming up with a phenomenal way to pay tribute to a terrific season. Apologies if simply reading all this “Baby Shark” talk got the song stuck inside of your head. It’ll go away, eventually. Maybe.
