Matt Damon Gets a Tattoo Tribute to His Father
Daniel Winter inked "Nomad" onto the shoulder of the Oscar winner
Matt Damon has been on a bit of a tattoo kick recently. It wasn’t too long ago that he visited Bang Bang NYC to be tattooed by Mr. K, adding some embellishments around an older tattoo. And now Damon has added even more around the original piece.
Damon’s original arm tattoo was inked by Daniel Winter, aka Winterstone, quite some time ago, so it only makes sense that Damon return to Winter to help bring his piece up to date.

The delicate script tattoo—fineline script is Winter’s speciality—says Nomad. No, Winter didn’t screw up and accidentally spell Damon’s last name backwards. Damon’s father, Kent Telfer Damon, had a boat named the “Nomad,” which no doubt was a play on his surname as well as the primary purpose of a boat—wandering around aimlessly at sea. The tattoo is a beautiful way to pay tribute to a loved one in an unexpected way. Everybody goes and gets their family name tattooed at some point, it’s definitely one of the Top 5 first tattoos people get, so the slight variation is an inspired way to think out side of the box.
The film industry is filled with ups and downs, even for superstars like Damon, so it also appears as if he’s looking to find a new profession as a tattoo artist. After being inked by Winter, Damon put on the gloves and grabbed the machine, giving Winter his very first tattoo. It was a very ambitious concept as Damon attempted to depict an entire universe. OK, it was actually just a dot, but that’s what universes look like from far enough away, right? Everybody has to start somewhere…
