This College Gymnast Broke Both of Her Legs During Tumbling Stunt
Take a look at the Auburn University Student's Shocking Fall
When we think of dangerous sports, we often think of fighting or football. However, there are a number of non-contact sports that can lead to life threatening injuries and in some cases, death. One example of this is gymnastics, where both men and women perform dangerous stunts that can have serious consequences. Over the weekend, a college gymnast named Samantha Cerio learned this lesson the hard way during a competition.
Cerio is a gymnast for Auburn University and Friday March 5th she competed at the Baton Rouge Regional. During her first pass of a floor routine, however, the college student fumbled while attempting a handspring double front. Cerio wasn’t able to land the move and when falling backward, she dislocated both of her knees and broke her legs.
Cerio was taken off the mat on a stretcher and that night on Instagram, she announced that her career as a gymnast was over.
“After 18 years I am hanging up my grips and leaving the chalk behind. I couldn’t be prouder of the person that gymnastics has made me to become. It’s taught me hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication, just to name a few,’ she wrote.
‘It’s given me challenges and road blocks that I would have never imagined that has tested who I am as a person.’
‘It may not have ended the way I had planned, but nothing ever goes as planned.'”
