Today’s skull of the day is this amazing piece by Moni Marino. Marino is one of the best known international artists out there. Based in Germany, Marino has been tattooing since 1993 and eventually opened up Essen’s Black Barock Art Palace. Best known for her color realism, Marino is equally skilled as both a tattooist and a painter.
Check out today’s pick to see some of Marino’s signature aesthetic. Always using a bright and regal color palette, Marino’s work seems to transcend time and read more like a Baroque painting rather than a modern day tattoo. There’s always so much detail packed into Marino’s designs, whether it’s the surrealist combination of a skull turning into a clock or just the swirling backgrounds rounding out the scene being depicted.
Along with the skull, Marino includes two roses, crumpled paper and a candle. With each of these elements, Marino is able to really delve into textures and render a design that looks extremely true to life. Just look at that candle’s flame! It looks hot enough to burn yourself on! The high quality and keen eye used to come up with this kind of design is one of the major reasons we love Marino and her work.
