Hi Misty! Can you introduce yourself for the Inked readers that may not know you?
Hi Inked! I am a native Texan now living in sunny Los Angeles. I’ve been getting tattooed for about four years & modeling for three. My style is a mixture of elegance and edge. I believe inked models are the future of the modeling industry- combining art and style together. What better than that, right?!
How long ago did you move to LA from Austin, TX?
I’ve only lived in LA since Feb 2015… it feels longer. I can honestly say, this has been one of the best career jumps I’ve made to date.
What are the main differences between modeling in Texas and in LA?
It really is night and day. Texas was a great starting point for me. I was able to tap into my soul, define my voice, & create with like minded individuals. Los Angeles was where I needed to be to make a career out of my art form.
What has been your biggest hardship to overcome in California?
Experiencing the loss of my dog of nine years, Pumpkin, was exponentially difficult for me. Especially because I was in a new place & away from family. Fortunately, I have made some wonderful friends who really opened their hearts in my trying time.
Do you have any advice for aspiring creatives that are considering leaving their home town?
Be brave, first and foremost. You are not alone when it comes to chasing your dreams and taking a leap of faith through it all. Here is some solid advice:
1) Start your career in your hometown and try to save, save, save! The cost of moving & living in a new city is not an easy feat—you must be realistic about your dreams too!
2) Use your #1 free resource: the Internet! You can use this valuable tool in so many ways—especially meeting new friends like I did 🙂
3) Never forget why you started, & most importantly where you came from. Your family and friends back home want to see you succeed, but they also don’t want to feel forgotten. Take time to nurture those relationships or else time will slip by so fast and you’ll wish you had.
Your social media is on point. Tell us about Mondays in the Garden on your Snapchat!
Why thank you 🙂 I started this broadcast as a means to inspire everyone about the booming & blooming marijuana industry. There is so much work that goes into bringing you all those fluffy green buds you enjoy so much. I thought you all should know I’m more than a model, I like to get my hands dirty too! Keep me locked on Snapchat—Mondays in the Garden in 2016 will be formatted to show you all the progression of Bleed Gold & how I plan on using the “herbs” I grow to cook with!
How can someone get their hands on the Bleed Gold marijuana strain you’ve been marketing?
Be sure to follow my work on social media (@xxbleedgoldxx & especially Massroots: Bleed Gold). Any and all news on my strain will be released there first! Plan on seeing limited quantities this summer in select LA dispensaries.
Where do you see the future of medicinal marijuana going?
What a time to be alive! The future is a bright one, I believe with the help of all cannabis enthusiasts & lovers out there, national legalization could come sooner than we expect. Twenty-three states currently have laws allowing marijuana to be legal in some form. That’s nearly half!
We hear you like to cook and even attended culinary school. DREAM GIRL! What are your favorite munchie foods?
That I do! Attending Le Cordon Bleu in Austin was a long time dream of mine. I passed all my courses with flying colors & while I took some time to explore a hidden passion for modeling, I never let the dust settle on this skill. Coming this year, I will be demonstrating through video tutorials all my favorite dishes, especially some using cannabis! Again, stay tuned on my social media for all the new links to these! Ah, & favorite foods to nosh on—who doesn’t love a good pasta dish! I go crazy over fresh pasta with a delicate sauce of white wine, garlic, shallots, clams, & fresh parsley!
Let’s talk about your tattoo work. It’s beautiful. Your pieces are strong. Who has done the majority of your work?
Thank you! I pride myself on working with artists who inspire me daily, always working hard to help change the industry. I have never had anyone scoff at my art, most people admire it or ask my why I chose to have them. I simply retort with, how’s that $500 purse working to satisfy you? Tattoo art is a luxury that need not be understood, but respected. My artists include: Scott Spencer, Paco Cendon, Andres Acosta, Zack Singer, Thomas Hooper, David Poe , Miryam Lumpini & Corey Divine.
Have you linked up with any artists on the west coast yet?
Yes! There are so many great artists out here! Just this year, I’ve added work from Miryam & Corey.
Can you give us 3 tips for someone getting their first tattoo?
1) Use Instagram to scout your artist & do your research!
2) Use Pinterest to discover a treasure chest full of themes, ideas, patterns, & concepts
3) Prepare for the pain. If you can’t handle a lot of pain, schedule multiple sessions with your artist and talk with them on advice to help manage. Some artists use numbing sprays, but don’t get used to those. Embrace the pain as a time for you to plug some headphones in and have an inner chat with your mind to take the focus off of it. I find getting tatted somewhat therapeutic—that’s just me 🙂
